Remix

Remix turns an app from the Store into your own independent, editable project on your Mac. Instead of starting from a blank canvas, you begin from an app that already works, then take it in whatever direction you like. Your remix is a project of its own, so changes you make never touch the original, and the original's updates never overwrite your work.

Remixing is a good starting point when you like how an app works and want to adapt it, learn from how it's put together, or use it as a base for something new of your own.

You can start a remix from wherever you come across an app worth building on:

  • From an app's detail page: Open an app in the Store and choose Remix.
  • From a context menu: Right-click an app in the Store, in My Projects, or in your Installed Apps, and choose Remix. The action appears once Glaze confirms the app can be remixed.
  • From My Projects: With no projects yet, the empty state offers a Start by Remixing composer to browse apps you can build on.
  • When starting a new project: A fresh Agent window shows a browsable grid of remixable apps to pick from.

To see everything you can build on in one place, open the Store and choose the Remixable filter. See Store for how filtering works.

When you remix a regular app, Glaze sets up a new project for you:

  • Name it: The project is named <App name> Remix by default, up to 60 characters. The name field is focused so you can rename it right away.
  • Setup runs: A setup dialog shows its progress as Glaze grants access, downloads the app, builds it, and signs it. It stays open while setup runs and can't be dismissed until it finishes.
  • If setup can't finish: When something recoverable goes wrong partway through, Glaze leaves the project in My Projects with a Retry option so you can pick up where it stopped.

When it's done, the remix is a project of your own in My Projects, ready to open and edit like any other. See Managing Your Projects for what you can do with it from there.

A remix of a regular app credits where it came from. Your remix shows a Remix badge with attribution back to the original app where available, and the original app lists your remix in return. In Store search, original apps are ranked ahead of remixes of them, so the source shows up first when both match.

Made to Remix is a curated collection of apps picked as strong starting points to build on. You'll find it on the Store landing page and in the Start by Remixing and new-project composers.

Remixing a Made to Remix app gives you a fully independent app with no strings attached:

  • No attribution badge.
  • No Remixed from link back to the original.
  • The original doesn't list your app as a remix.

These apps are shared this way on purpose, so what you build from one is entirely your own.

Sometimes you don't want a copy of an app, just to learn from how one is built. In Agent Chat, you can ask the agent to read another remixable public Store app's source as a reference while it builds your app. This doesn't create a project from that app: it's read-only reference material, not a remix.

To use an app as a reference, give the agent a Store link, the app's name, or its slug. The agent downloads that app's source into a temporary sandbox and uses it purely as reference while working on your app.

Reading another app as a reference needs the same eligibility as remixing it. If an app can't be remixed, it can't be used as a reference either.

If your app reuses a substantial amount of code from a reference app, credit the original app and its author in your app's description.

For safety, the agent strips out anything in a reference app that could try to redirect it, such as agent instruction files, before reading the rest. It treats the source as reference material only, never as instructions to follow.

If you belong to a team, you can remix apps published to your own team's store. Apps in a team store aren't available to remix by anyone outside that team.

A remix of a team app has to stay within the same team:

  • It can't be published to the Public Store.
  • It can't be published as Unlisted.
  • It can't be moved to a different team.

See Team Store and Visibility Levels for how team stores and publishing options work.

By default, apps you publish can be remixed by others. When publishing, the Allow others to remix toggle controls this.

On the Free plan the toggle is always on and can't be turned off; the option reads Upgrade to Pro to turn off remixing. On Glaze Pro or Glaze Team Pro, or during a trial, you can turn it off so others can't remix your app. See Publish Apps for where this sits in the publish flow.
